Tips on Caring for Your Smile During Hockey Season

Posted .

If you play hockey, whether it’s in a city league, high school league, or competitive league, you need to care for your smile as you practice and play. This is very important because if you don’t, your smile can reap the consequences, especially because hockey is very high in contact. So, please take care of your smile as much as possible by using Dr. Maria Sese’s tips.

First, wear a mouthguard. A mouthguard is a shell-type appliance that covers your teeth and protects them. This is very helpful when suffering a blow to the face because it helps prevent oral injury, like chipped, knocked-out, and broken teeth. So, please make sure to wear a mouthguard when you practice and play.

Second, avoid drinking sports drinks. This is recommended because sports drinks are full of sugar, and sugar promotes cavities. You don’t want a cavity, right? So, do your best to drink water instead of a sports drink. If this isn’t possible, quickly rinse your mouth with water after drinking the sports drink.
